Sailing

Growing up, my dad would often regale me with his tales of sailing on Barnegat Bay in New Jersey. After Hurricane Sandy hit the Northeast, we fixed up his old AMF Alcort Sunfish, and I went for my first sail in 2014. Since then, sailing has become one of my favorite pastimes and a rewarding way to give back to my community by sharing this hobby with others. I've volunteered as an on-water instructor for the Cypremort Yacht Club's annual Junior Sunfish Sailing Camp since 2018, helping dozens of Boy Scouts earn their sailing merit badge in the process. I've also had the privilege of providing private sailing lessons to both adults and teens. Beyond honing my ability to think on my feet (stuff breaks!), my experiences as a sailing instructor have helped me effectively tailor my explanations to my audience and think creatively about different ways to explain the same concept. These skills have certainly kept me afloat while working on group projects, streamlining my clarifications and collaborations with both peers and coworkers. No matter who I'm teaching, one thing stays true: there's nothing better than a windy day on Vermilion Bay!
